GALS Group

Nurturing Relationships

This workshop will be hosted by Tsawout Head Start program starting January 30th, for 6 sessions on Thursday evenings until March 6th.  A dinner will be served at 4:30 pm in the classroom next to the Head Start room. Child minding will be offered during the workshop at 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm.  This workshop will be open to families in our neighboring communities of Pauquachin, Tseycum and Tsartlip. Please call Tabita at (250) 652-1149 ext. 333 if you are interested or need a ride. 

Meal Bag Cooking Class

This months’ class will meet on Tuesday, February 4th & 25th from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm in the Old Council Chambers kitchen. Everyone is welcome to cook a meal together!  Participants will receive a fruit bag and meal to take home.

Play Group

Aboriginal Infant Development worker, Rachel Greene, and Tabita would like to introduce speech and language through play, signing and singing! We will meet on Thursday, Febrary 13th and 27th at 11:00 am – 12:00 noon.  Lunch will be served.

Clothing Exchange

The exchange is open in Head Start every day from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. There is a need for boy’s clothes, infant – teenage sizes. Lots of girl’s clothes of all sizes are available! Bring donations to the back door of centre. 

COHI webCOHI

Children’s Oral Health Initiative is in its second year. This program continues to provide service for our Tsawout children age 0 – 7 years. Dental screenings have been conducted in the Head Start room with the Dental Hygienist, Holly McDonald and Tabita Marks. Four fluoride varnishes are offered throughout the school year and summer months for early intervention of tooth decay.  No appointments are necessary, home visits can be made at your convenience! Just call *Tabita to arrange your child’s visit.

M.O.M.S. Group

The moms group will meet with Tabita and her support nurse, Merrin Fennel, from Victoria Pregnancy Centre on February 17th and 24th. Home visits will be scheduled to support moms with infants and fruit bags offered to each mom.

Further Training

Tabita will be away for Training and Conference from February 2nd – 6th. Tabita will be attending training with Red Cross and on February 18 – 20 on “Family is the Focus.”  Programs have been rescheduled and will continue in her absence.
